Is the world an illusion?

view Mohanji

Welcome to Mohanji Speaks.

Hello, my dear friends, hope you’re doing well.

We have spoken about alternative realities in the past. Today, let’s touch upon the subject of illusions. We have heard time and again that the world is an illusion. How can the world be an illusion? It’s so tangible; it’s so real. It creates emotions, so it can’t be illusions. But the truth is, we see the world as we are. If we are in a very romantic mood, we see the whole world as being romantic. When we are pessimistic, we see the world as being pessimistic. When we are happy, we see the world also as happy. When we have sorrows, we see the world as being full of sorrows.

So, what is the real world? We really do not know. The world is as it is, and it reflects our state, how we are, how we think, or how we feel. The world just reflects it. Various masters and people have told about some of the realities which are not so tangible, like Kailash, like the Siddha Loka inside Arunachala (Tiruvannamalai, TamilNadu, India); all those worlds which we can possibly see in certain states or frequencies. They reflect as we are too.

Lahiri Mahasaya was initiated by Babaji in a beautiful palace, with gold and diamonds and all sorts of riches. But the morning after the initiation, there wasn’t anything. This was an illusion, but it was real and tangible at that time. Likewise, when we have divine romance brimming inside us, when we see the world of Shiva-the Kailash, it’s beautiful, deeply enchanting and highly intoxicating!

At the same time, when we are in a mood of despair or when we are not so happy, or even if we are a bit terrestrially influenced, we see Kailash as murky, grey, and snow. So, this is exactly how our views are. We see Kailash as murky, grey, like ashes, just a snow-clad mountain; we may not even see inside that mountain. The world – the Shiva Loka inside, cannot be easily accessed; it’s not easy to access. You should reach a level of elevation, a frequency so that you can access it. But that’s squarely up to the blessings and grace of the Lord of Kailash, or (you would have to reach) the frequency that would suit us to enter that space. It’s all about frequencies.

Everywhere, wherever you are, wherever you go, it’s about frequency; whether you’re able to access Siddha Loka or Naga Loka, or Shiva Loka; Loka means the world. The world of all these frequencies; it’s that, we have to gain that level, or we have to attain that level of frequency. Otherwise, we can only see, not understand. We may not even be able to see if our frequency is much denser. We would only see the immediate, the gross.

We have to gain a lot of subtlety through chanting, through purifications, through practices, to reach the levels of subtlety where we can actually witness. When we go to Vrindavan, for us to see Lord Krishna playing his Rasa Leelawe must have subtlety; we must see the world through subtle eyes. It’s possible; it’s not an illusion.

Then what is an illusion there? The illusion is that we see the world only as we are. This is the main illusion. That means we do not see reality. So, when do we get to see the reality? When we completely merge with the Supreme Consciousness, unchangeable, pure brightness.

Once you merge with that brightness, brighter than a million suns there is no illusion anymore – you are brightness. You are one with brightness, just like a drop falling into the ocean and becoming the ocean, you completely dissolve back into your original state. That means pure consciousness; that pure consciousness already sits in you as your Atma tattva, the principle called the soul. Atma tattva is our walking reality, no illusion, it is reality. It is not relative. It’s real. If we are able to find the Atma tattva within, then we are able to access a world without illusions. No parallel realities, no illusions, no imaginations or hallucinations, it is reality, all the time. In that mode, your operating platform will be that of unconditional love, peace within, no thoughts, happiness.

Think about this. I wish you a great day ahead, and I wish you great success in life.

Nature

mohanji1-1

Hello friends, welcome to another episode of Mohanji Speaks.

Today we will talk about nature. What is nature? Nature has two aspects. There are many aspects but let’s talk about two aspects. One is the nature within us. And the second is the Nature outside of us, which sustains us. First, let’s think about our nature. What is our nature? Our nature is a combination of so many factors, such as character, constitution, emotions, our disposition, even our form as well as expressions – all put together is our nature. Our nature has various dimensions, and we can only express or experience this world according to our nature, according to our disposition, according to what we are. Our nature is what we are. That’s essentially the whole life’s method or presentation. Meaning, we are living this whole life with this nature.

Now, we have Nature outside our nature, which is infinitely patient, always loving, always caring, and never asking anything back. But if the harmony is disturbed it suffers. When the disturbance becomes too much it gives one slap, one hit. And that could be quite detrimental. It could wipe out a species; we have seen that also in history.
The aspect of our nature is indirectly connected to Nature outside. Or what we are has a lot of importance to how mankind would be. If all individuals put together, live harmoniously on Earth, beyond caste, creed, country, religion, and culture, then there is a very big chance that we will sustain the Nature outside in a prolonged way. Its longevity will be more. But if we are greedy and we are displaying base emotions like anger, hatred, revenge, and all those things, then this will also reflect in the data in the world outside. The world outside is the expression of our nature. When we display this kind of greed and this kind of base emotions to the world, then Nature may take a stand at some point in time. It may allow a few generations to pass by. Then suddenly, it just shifts. Finished. Then, we have emptiness.

species

Nature outside does not really care for any species, even though it nurtures all species. It will not matter if one species does not exist in it, because that doesn’t matter to it. We need Nature, not that Nature needs us, this should be very clear. We need to tune up our nature, inherent nature, to suit the Nature outside. That is the whole point I’m trying to tell you. That means, we must tone up our nature sufficiently to connect to Nature outside, and we should be in harmony with Nature outside. And if we don’t, then it’s just a matter of time, it is just a matter of time before big catastrophes happen. During this coronavirus situation right now, while all are in confinement, the world is open for every other species. It’s a true sign of how Nature could work. Even if you say that this was a man-made calamity.

Look at the net result of this, it affected everybody. It affected all the human beings in the world, one way or the other and it will continue to affect because of the social and economic meltdowns and stuff. It will continue to affect for a long period of time. We must understand that the actions which we have taken, or the methods which we have used in the past have not been really conducive for a sustained existence, we might have prolonged our lifespan with our medicines or with our technology. We might have connected to people like we are connecting now through waves of energy. This is all good because these are all human innovations. But at the same time, has humanity risen up in the same way? Have we really tackled the looming danger of climate change? It’s affecting everybody. Or have we really tackled human interference into the forests and Nature, destroying and killing species indiscriminately to be happy? These kinds of things we must understand.

harmony

What has been our behavior pattern? This is very important to understand. When we wake up early in the morning, we must know this. What have our behavior patterns been all these years? We have ignored a lot of crimes to Nature while we have spoken a lot about things which are not really important, like cheating, stealing, we should eradicate all that. But we should not really overwhelmingly talk about it on media, who cheated on who, who siphoned money, and corruptions. All these are signs of human degeneracy, and that degeneracy is also reflected in Nature in the form of exploitation of Nature. Water, earth, the skies, everything is exploited.

It’s become difficult for every species to live on Earth. Who created this? We created this. Our nature has to be totally cleaned in order to connect to Nature outside so that we can live harmoniously. Otherwise, we will have problems, not only us, many, many species will have problems as we have seen. Thousands of species are extinct, forest fires, natural calamities, tsunamis, earthquakes, wars, and destruction of various kinds. Ethnic cleansing. What have we seen in life? If you look at history, mad conquests, disturbances, and displacements happened. These are all signs of a turbulent nature inside that’s causing the turbulence outside. So, nature inside has great value.

be natural

We really need to tone up our nature inside into compassion, kindness, and the highest of human values such as selflessness, this has to be happening while we are living every day, there is no tomorrow for this. Right now is the time, and accept people, encourage people who are doing good things in the world, for the people, for Nature, for ecology. Encourage them, support them, guide them, finance them, and help them. So that more and more people, more and more species are sustained. When everything is sustained, Nature sustains us. When we sustain Nature, Nature sustains us. When we do not pollute Nature, Nature does not pollute us. What we give, we get, what we sow, we reap.

With this thought on your plate, I leave you. Please do discuss it, please talk about this in detail, with all your friends, all the people. Try to share this information with people. This is food for thought. I’m not giving you any answers, you should find the answers; the answers are within you. There is no need for me to tell you what the truth is because you know it already. I’m just reminding you. So, share this, and then get this thought spreading in the mind so that we could probably see a better mindset for a better world. I leave you with these thoughts.

This is Mohanji. Thank you.

Focus on Purpose not People

During a casual discussion regarding an organisational matter, Mohanji responded with great intensity about the need to focus on one’s purpose in life and steer clear of all kinds of emotions and emotional entanglement. He reiterated the need to use the clarity based on our purpose in life to respond to situations, people, and so on. This is a very valuable perspective that we believe is applicable to all of us who are on the spiritual path. Mohanji’s words follow…
When we get closer and closer to our soul, divisions do not exist. We only see the purpose. What is purpose? Our purpose in life. It’s not about people (read: minds swayed by emotion). When we concentrate on people, purpose is lost. When we concentrate on purpose, people (and their fluctuating minds) lose importance. That is how I’m operating.
The world operates in only two ways. They either praise us or they criticise us. We don’t have to entertain both. The moment we get involved in either of these, we have to use our mind. Then we have to do a balancing act. What do we lose in the bargain? Purpose!
Someone called me yesterday and said that she was feeling down. I asked, “Why are you feeling down? You don’t have to feel down. During my work for this mission, many people have come and gone. Many people tried to put me down and pull me down but I always kept my focus on my purpose. I never based my life on people or their fluctuating minds. They are here today, gone tomorrow. When we focus on purpose, it gives us immunity, it gives us clarity, it gives us momentum. Otherwise, whenever somebody praises or criticises us, we can lose our track.”
Lack of alignment is connected to emotions. Minus emotions, alignment is perfect. When we do spiritual practice, we get aligned at some level. Then, we get into emotions and get entangled in the associated drama. It is like pouring water in a bucket (through spiritual practices) and then punching holes (through emotions) in the bucket that drain the water away.
mohanjiacharyas-focus-on-purpose-not-people-that-is-how-i-operate
Understand the world. Look at how the world operates between praise and criticism, between acceptance and condemnation. They will either say we are great or we are bad. We have nothing to do with all this. What is our purpose? My purpose is very clear. My purpose is to elevate people’s awareness, to raise their consciousness to the level where they can become one with the Ultimate Reality or get close to that state. All my activities are connected to this purpose. If I have to give food, I give food. If I have to give awareness. I give awareness. If I have to give a meditation, I give a meditation. Whatever it takes, I give it.
We have an inherent interest for praise. We become very happy, when people praise us. What gets happy? What part of us gets happy? Ego gets happy. Ego is always waiting. Ego says, “If somebody is praising me, I’m happy.” Thus, we make sure that praise happens, just to satisfy your ego. Understand it’s a trap. When people praise me, “You’ve done a great job. You rescued somebody from death.” Is there a change in my face? Do I get excited? Never. I surrender the praise at the feet of the Ultimate Reality. I have nothing to do with it. Similarly, if ten people say, Mohanji is very bad. I am fine with that too. It is their opinion and they are welcome to have it. I don’t have to buy into it.
The world is full of opinions. It’s up to you whether you should take it or not. That’s what I told the person who called me, “People can talk anything they want. Would you take it? Would you accept it? Would you believe in it? If you believe you are bad, then you’re finished. You’re neither good nor bad, or you’re both. Accept it that way. Otherwise when somebody says something, you will have to change yourself to suit their opinion When will you stop? Finally, you won’t have anything. Your whole life gets wasted endlessly satisfying others.”
We should look at the world differently. That’s the bottom line. People bring emotions. Why should we buy it? It’s like a vendor comes to us and says, “I’m going to sell you old rotten fish.” We say, “Oh, poor guy”, feel sympathy and buy it. What happens? The whole house stinks. People can bring stinking stuff. We don’t have to buy it. They can keep their stink. Let us keep our house clean.
I only have a problem when people become vicious and they obstruct my activity. That’s the only time I have to do something because I have to complete the activity to fulfil my purpose. If my path is blocked, the block has to be removed. It’s not about people. I don’t focus on people. I look at the result. It’s not for my personal comfort. Every situation should be handled this way. Purpose, purpose and purpose. Not people, people and people. That’s why when people complain about other people, I try to play it down, tell them to let it go and end that discussion.
mohanjiacharyas-focus-on-purpose-not-people-1
That is why I told the person who called me, “Don’t get involved in this emotional drama because you delay your progress inside. You fall for these kinds of things. You tend to put everybody on your head and pamper them. What do you end up with – a lot of asses on your head. Look at the world and see how it works. Then it’s your choice whether you want to fall into these traps or not.”
Today in the internet age, we have many options on the spiritual path and a lot of information. There are people who are always posting about various Masters and their quotes. It only suggests that they may be intelligent or know a few things. But that is only for the outer world. What about their inner world? Nothing is happening – same insecurity, same fears, same old baggage. How does inner world change? When one’s integration with one’s Master is firm. When you are plugged in, the electricity comes. When you do not plug in, you don’t get electricity which means internally, no alignment. It is easy to see. Very easy. I only deal with those people who have that intensity. If there’s nothing to do, why should I bother? Unless there’s something to do, why should we waste time? It may sound rude but this is the truth.
Some people cannot accept destruction of their comfort zones. What will they do? They will go, because, getting out of their comfort zones is a violation for them. Let them go. The path of Liberation is a path of fire. Not everyone can handle its fast pace and momentum. When comfort zones are affected, people who are not ready for change will leave us because this is not their cup of tea. They will go. What can we do? We cannot change our speed because of other people. The path of Liberation does not allow that. It expects things to be done when they need to be done. Not before. Not after. I have clarity. I have an agenda. I know where I’m going. I know what I am doing. I know why I’m doing it. Then if somebody says, “It disturbs my comfort zone. I want to procrastinate. This is my pace. I don’t want to do it this way.” I say, “Don’t do it. Who has said that you should be with me? I never said that.” If you are with me, then I have a responsibility to take you to the Ultimate Reality or take you closer to that state. If you’re not with me, I have no responsibility for you. That is less work for me. I am happy.
When one is plugged in, electricity has to come. When you’re with me, when you’re connected to me, when you are plugged into me, it automatically becomes my responsibility. So, understand this world is dual, happiness and sorrow, praises / contempt, and so on. How much do you want to get involved? There is only one knowledge and one wisdom. What is knowledge? Awareness of the soul. Knowledge is knowing there is a soul. Wisdom is being the soul. That is the difference. Knowledge means that there is some energy inside you which is operating you. Then how do you know that is operating? You get closer beyond all this emotional circus and then you get connected with your own soul and then you realise or you feel the soul. You experience it, then it becomes wisdom. Until then there is no wisdom. Experience becomes wisdom. Experiential wisdom is required. Mere knowledge is not enough.
mohanjiacharyas-focus-on-purpose-not-people-3
The worst stupidity we have is the concept of sacrifice. Sometimes, we feel we sacrificed our life for another. We gave up our life for somebody. Yet, I have not seen anyone sacrifice. What is the reality of this so called sacrifice? When we can’t really make it with our life, we decide to make someone else’s life in the bargain. Nobody wins. We can’t walk so we help the other person to walk. So what happens? We fall down, the other person falls down and we claim that we made a sacrifice for them. This is the kind of world we’re living in. The word sacrifice is a very funny word. It has literally lost its meaning. First of all, we are stupid and now we are announcing our stupidity to the world. If we become stable that is the right thing to do for the other person. If we say, “I connected to myself, I attained myself and then I delivered that stability to the other person”, it makes sense. We did well.
There is nobody in the world who’s not selfish. We shouldn’t be selfish for the things outside – for something in someone’s pocket or in their yard. Anyways, we are all selfish. At least, let us be selfish to find ourselves. We use our selfishness and our time to find ourselves. This is a good way. Then what we give to the world is quality.

ASK THE MASTERS

mohanji speaks

Shlloka: We are kick starting, Ask The Masters. It was a long time coming. And it is such a privilege to have all of you here. I am Shlloka, your host and with a lot of pleasure, I introduce my co-host, Dr. Nidhi Kumar.

Dr. Nidhi Kumar is the lead anchor for Doordarshan. She’s a rubicon of journalism, very iconic and she has been championing various social causes and spiritual emancipation at many levels. And this is one such initiative. I would also like to mention our co-host “Mystics of India”. Mystics of India is a platform which endorses spirituality. And it talks about the tales of mystics through their platform. Finally, I’d like to acknowledge our partners for this episode – Mohanji Foundation. It’s truly a blessing to have you associated with us through this medium and with our first episode. So thank you to all of you for joining…

Dr. Nidhi Kumar: Thank you, Shlloka. And before we introduce Mohanji, it’s time to greet all our viewers here. Namaste, Sairam and welcome, as we kick start the first episode of ‘Ask The Masters’ and go inwards.

By the way, a few questions. Did you know?

  • 70% of the content online is pornographic
  • India is the hub of student suicide in the world.
  • You know what is trending on Google these days? How to cope with anxiety, depression and stress!

These rates are off the roofs. The initiative is to challenge the strength. We can do better and we will do better. The intention is to shift people from ill-being to well-being at the touch of a button. And hopefully, by the end of the series, you would have the solutions that you need to have, to have a happier, healthier life. I now request Shlloka to introduce Mohanji.

Shlloka

Shlloka: So who is Mohanji? This is my first time hosting any event, so I was reading a little bit about him on his website. The core of who he is, is that he is a renowned humanitarian who is focusing on positive human values that we can add in this world and without expectation, through our existence.

But what struck me the most was that Mohanji does not exist. This really caught me because the description that I read was him being an everyday man. So what is it about Mohanji that makes so many people gravitate towards him? It is the fact that he does not exist! And whenever anything does not exist, it doesn’t have a frame, it doesn’t have dimensions, it doesn’t have personalities, it doesn’t have qualities. It is empty, there is nothingness. And because of this emptiness, Mohanji becomes a doorway for something bigger and larger to happen through him.

Mohanji, it is such a pleasure and privilege for a seeker to be associated with you and be in your midst. So thank you for gracing the occasion.

Mohanji: Thank you so much.

Shlloka: We have people joining in from all across the globe. And the first thing that I would like to ask you is about your spiritual journey. What led you to this? What got you started, can you talk a little bit about that?

Mohanji: Well, after going through all phases of life – the different phases, physical, emotional, intellectual, the many phases that we go through, right from childhood, (and mostly unconsciously, because we don’t know we have shifted to various levels), at some point in time, this question comes to you. What exactly are you looking for? Since I had been working in the shipping industry earlier, I could taste whatever money could buy. But it wasn’t happiness. So I was literally searching for happiness for a long period of time. I used to go to the Himalayas often. Whenever I used to get leave, I flew to the Himalayas. But the problem was that when I went back, I couldn’t carry the Himalayas with me!

So at one point in time, I started asking myself, “Is this really what you want to do?” When you have time you’re going to a place and that place has peace. But you’re not carrying that peace with you. So you need to find peace amongst all activities or amidst everything. So that’s when I literally started focusing on myself. And it continued for a long time, about five or six years of deep penetration. My path was very simple. I didn’t have a guru. So I was literally connecting to my spine and just switching off from the front-orientedness.

We are generally front-oriented, because all our sensors are in the front and we tend to go to the front and hence everything is front-oriented. That is how we are made. Usually we don’t even think about our spine in our daily life because we don’t have to, unless there is back pain. I simply tried to connect to my spine, started feeling my spine and that literally took me inside – meaning I used to connect to my spine and breathe through the spine, etc.

Even if you just remember your spine, you will know that your connection has gone to your third eye. This was my practice and it took some time. From the world of sounds which I was totally involved in, like everybody else, I started going into the core of sounds which is silence. Like the ocean, from where the waves are coming out and going back to the ocean, all noises come out of silence and they go back to silence. So I could go down deeper and deeper after a lot of effort. Don’t think it’s easy, because it takes time, and because we are used to sounds. We are used to noises. And we think it’s natural for us to be in the noises. I was one of the noises in the world of noises.

But then 3 am to 8 am was my time. The rest of the time I had sold for money because I was working. So from 3am to 8am, I used to focus on myself, on the spine, and then go deeper. Silence used to be in the form of less thoughts initially, and no thoughts eventually. Once I touched silence, I realised I didn’t need to go anywhere. So in the midst of activity, I could penetrate to the world of silence. Then later I came back to the world of noises as silence. That was the difference. That’s why Shlloka said a little bit earlier that I don’t exist, because I don’t exist as a noise. I exist as silence which is probably not so visible. You have got to have the ‘eyes’ to really see that, but that was fine with me. Everybody need not connect because many people connect to the world of noises easily but silence is very difficult. From the world of noises to the world of silence was the transition for me. And that created Mohanji.

Mohanji speaks 2

Shlloka: The iconic Mohanji as we say.

Nidhi: Absolutely! We resonate with your views. Because the purpose of ‘Ask the Masters’ is to go inwards and introspect, especially in these quarantined times/ lockdown times. However a lot of people are very stressed because of the current situation and there’s a lot of anxiety in their minds.

In the present times people are suffering both on macro and micro levels. On the macro level, people are losing their jobs. They are starving. And on the mental level, some of them are going through a lot of hell. There’s a lot of mental abuse happening as we speak and the statistics are quite alarming. Then there is domestic violence also on a different front. On a micro level, people are stressed, angered and their relationships are actually getting strained. How do we tackle this suffering?

Mohanji: I would say don’t try to tackle situations, instead tackle yourself. That’s the right thing to tackle. Because externally, we do not have control over various things since we are only participants. However, internally we can control everything. This is a God-given time, to be ourselves; to really penetrate within and understand this thing called ‘us’.

You have got to really take time and look at your structure and try to segregate yourself and say, “Okay, this anger, agitation, confusion, insecurity etc. is not me.” You can take various aspects like, “I’m not the anger, I’m not the hatred. I’m not the comparison” etc. and start detaching yourself from all that you are not. All these emotions are connected to the world outside.

In actuality, the world for us is only after we wake up. There is no world for us when we sleep. So the world that we are talking about i.e the people, materials, time, space etc. is only when we are awake. When we are sleeping or when we are dreaming, we don’t have that world. Hence we should understand “What are WE amongst or amidst this world?” We should then try to understand yourselves in that context. The moment you start recognising who you are, you will start witnessing yourself in the whole situation. You will not be JUST a participant, you will be a reliable or a relevant participant – meaning, you will actually tend to add value to the situation.

Many times I feel we don’t have to speak. Silence is a good idea. We don’t have to react, speak or get involved every time, but we do it habitually. It’s our habit. If somebody calls us by a bad name or bad thing, we react immediately. But we don’t have to. We can just watch that person venting the anger and becoming calm after that. So in many places, we don’t need interference. If we are able to see that in ourselves, and we look at the world, like a mirror, I think most of these things can be sorted out.

Second point, we should try not to analyse situations. In general, we have a deep wish to know why something happened. We always try to put the blame on somebody or blame the situation. And it costs us a lot of time, stress and also spoils our mind. But as human beings we do have our (limited) life – if we live 80 years, it’s only 29,200 days, it’s not a lot of days. By the time we realise we have lived, we are (almost) dead. So in this lifetime, we have the right to be happy and content. We can’t and we should not give that possibility or that key to somebody. WE should keep that key.

That’s why I say, “Any situations in life are only a reminder that they exist and that’s an experience.” So apart from the experience point of view, we should not interfere. I’m not saying that you need to be an escapist. You be there. But be there as stillness or an icon of peace, where you do not have to react. You say, “Okay, this is the situation. We’ll talk about it, let’s sort it out”. Then, we try to help them come out of it. Just as we clear a roadblock. This is possible for us. We can all be policemen sometime, but non-interfering policemen.

Dr. Nidhi Kumar: Yes, like you said we need to handle these kinds of situations with a lot more equanimity.

Question: How to be positive, healthy, stable, peaceful and relaxed in such challenging times like the one currently? What is going to be the duration of this situation? How long do we need to stay stressed and why are we stressed? How do we be positive?

Mohanji: Being stressed is our choice, but being observant and being calm in any situation is our right. We can be very easy and non-stressed. But have we observed what brings this stress? Number one is expectation. We have a lot of expectations everyday – from the time we wake up in the morning.

Today I heard something – the time between when you wake up and when you get out of the bed is your amount of success; that means if you wake up and still lie down without getting up, it means you have earned laziness – meaning your success rate is affected. So this is something to think about. I would say, “Be purposeful”.

purpose

Also understand that situations are probably not engineered by us. A situation happened – it was given to us. What can we do in this peripheral? We have time, space, certain awareness, certain intelligence and certain people involved. In this context, we have to act. You can actually imagine that you are an actor playing a role. You can really play the role very well. So, this is your option.

In the current condition, Nature has told you: “You have no control”. An invisible particle has created a lot of havoc amongst us (the visible particle, for we are visible in this world). An invisible thing (we don’t even know what a virus looks like) has actually created a scare in the whole world. And it put everybody indoors. In this context, we need to spend time to understand and assimilate ourselves. It’s a very good time for us to know how we react to situations. Because this kind of thing has not happened in the last 200 years as far as I know, or probably ever since mankind started. We have a God-given opportunity.

There is a lot of stress connected to finances, stress connected to activity, stress connected to choices, we can’t travel (movement) etc. All the stresses have come together. And secondly, we may have to live together with people we really do not like, for example: our relatives and friends etc. in one space and being forced to see them. So this is something which is giving added stress.

Now you have every chance to re-wind yourself, recycle yourself, reset yourself. This chance should be well used. This is what I feel. And then there are so many methods and practices which great masters have given us including pranayama, the hyper-ventilations, connecting to yourself through certain meditations etc. But contemplation (manana) is very good. Manana makes a Maanav – this means that one who is able to think and contemplate, is a human being (man).

So we have a lot of opportunities to penetrate and contemplate: “Is that me?” Like Adi Shankara said….

Mano buddhi ahankara chittani naaham

Na cha shrotra jihve na cha ghraana netre

Na cha vyoma bhumir na tejo na vaayuhu

Chidananda rupah shivo’ham shivo’ham

But the point is that you can actually think, “Am I the body? Am I the intellect? Am I the ego? Am I the Spirit? What are we?”

So this will really make you fully collected and composed. And the moment you start realising you are very powerful, that you’re completely the universe, you will stop looking at the whole world through a keyhole. You will realise that you have the opportunity to see the whole universe. The moment you understand this, there ends the story. Then there is no stress for you anymore. There is no confusion, there is no agony, anxiety, anger, etc. It will all leave because you very well know that we are the universe and that nothing outside can touch us actually. Unless we are only external, then we get beaten up. In other words, we give the remote control of our happiness in somebody else’s hands, like neighbours or friends or relatives. Keep the remote control with you and use it wisely.

Question: I get scared very easily. I am scared of death basically or scared of what could happen to me.

Mohanji: Faith is the antidote for fear. Whenever we have fear, we understand that faith is lacking. So firstly, it should be the faith in ourselves; faith, not on something outside because your own personal Guru is inside. When you connect to yourself and assimilate yourself; when you understand that body, mind, intellect, ego, spirit, it is all within and that our body is just a case (shell), we start connecting to ourselves. Then we will feel peaceful.

faith

As I said, first you have to have faith in yourself. You are born and you have a space here, you have relevance here. So in this relevance and space, you do what you can, within your given capacity. You don’t have to compare, you don’t have to compete. There is nothing to compete or to compare with. You are being yourself and that is exactly your contribution to this world. So whenever you feel fear, understand that fear has no basis. Fear is like a shadow where light exists. So connect to the light, which is you. Then you can connect to any guru, any master, any god which you like to follow.

But essentially, it’s all about you. The whole spirituality is about you. “Tat Tvam Asi – You Are That”. That is exactly what the great masters have said. Over a period of time, you have been trying to find yourself. This is the only point here. If we understand this, there is no confusion. But if you are chasing something and if you don’t get it, there is disappointment. Please remember that when we have found ourselves, there is nothing anymore to find. This finding ourselves needs time, and we have to accept ourselves. Acceptance is very important. Most of the time, we don’t accept ourselves even if others accept us. That’s where the problem lies. If somebody has an opinion about us, we buy it and think it is real, and that it is true, then we have stopped accepting ourselves.

fear

We all have weaknesses, we all have strengths. We all have everything. We are a mixture. Nobody is higher or lower, not even equal. We are all unique. We should remember that we are a unique creation and this uniqueness is what we are giving to this world. The world may accept it or reject it. That is not our problem. We are existing today. This is the real celebration – that we are alive. This life is the celebration and this presence is the celebration. When you remember this, there will be no fear. Fear cannot exist together with light. Darkness cannot exist together with light. Fear cannot exist together with faith.

Dr. Nidhi Kumar: As you said, I’d like to reiterate the same thing….O Light of Exceptional Glory, enlighten the darkness of our minds, for dark is the path and you hold this light. The next question is..

“I am a stay at home mom and I wish to work again. I do not know what career to choose and do not know how to figure it out. My mind is in a quandary.”

When we were speaking yesterday, you told me that you’re getting so many calls from the US where people are losing jobs. It’s the same kind of apprehension.

Mohanji: I feel that the job loss situation will be all over the world because of the economic meltdown. But my answer to that is – let us not focus on the negatives. If you focus on negatives, there are plenty. Let us focus on the positives. First and foremost, how do we know what’s good for us? It’s very simple. It depends on our nature. What is our nature? We all have our unique nature. Some people have a nature for being a doctor. Some people like that profession, because their nature suits that kind of profession. Some people like to be a lawyer. Some people like to be in the sports field. Hence all these are connected to one’s individual nature. If your nature is not suiting that profession, you won’t be successful there.

So first and foremost, sit down and understand which profession suits you. That’s the first right step. Then you go towards the profession with full confidence. I would first say, “If you really want to be successful, you have to really apply yourself”. There’s no other way. Working smart is accepting yourself and applying yourself fully and doing only what you have to do. You don’t have to do the whole variety of things. Don’t try to multi-task and spoil your entire career. Instead focus on something which really suits you and dig deeper and deeper until you finally see water.

What suits you is what you can do effortlessly. That means if you like something and if you’re effortless about it, that shows that the profession/work suits you very well. That’s a sign of it. It is very easy to understand. If you are feeling stressed to even get up in the morning and if it is a pain or pressure to go towards your work, implies that you are doing something which you do not like to do or doing something which does not suit you. It’s like wearing a shirt which is not your size.

Mohanji speaks 4

Even in spirituality, what suits you is your path. Some people like devotion. They like to sing, chant, praise etc. Some people like intellectual stuff. They would like to listen, analyse, understand and only then they accept. Some people like Karma Yoga. They go out and they serve the world. Some people are a mixture of all this, but there will be some predominance and that is your path. Whatever is predominant in us; that’s exactly what we are. That’s our path.

Dr. Nidhi Kumar: That answers our question. I would like to add a little thing to it that it’s good to be rooted to your values. Let us move on to our next question.

Shloka: In extension to the career question, there are many individuals who talk about or who write about being compelled to be on a career path because of certain constraints. The constraints could be like financial constraints or it is too late in life to change career, or have a family to take care etc. So how would you advise those people to go through a career and the profession effortlessly?

Mohanji: The Upanishad says, “The food that came to you today is the medicine for you, even if that’s the food you never chose.” This means the food was delivered to you. Sometimes you are compelled to do something just for survival. In that situation, I would suggest you to always do the work with full dedication, but at the same time, have a hobby on the side, which you would like to do. So it compensates. For example, a person likes to be a photographer, but instead he is working as a government servant. So be a government servant fully for the sake of earning but at the same time practice photography as a hobby, so you don’t really miss it. And that gives equilibrium.

Sometimes life provides us with things which we may not have vocally asked for (but probably we may have been ‘eligible’ for that, we don’t know). If such a thing lands on your lap, accept it, then deliver your best. When you get something, you should do justice to it. Otherwise it’s not worth it. By rejecting or by resisting, it stays further. But by accepting it and by fully involving in it, maybe you will start liking it. Actually, the dislike starts with resistance. We keep pushing it away to an extent that it becomes painful. Then, we suffer. We don’t have to really suffer. Through acceptance, we can remove the suffering. We do not really have to cope with it – instead we dive into it and say, “Okay, what best can I do about it?” Plus, we take up a hobby which develops our other side, which blooms us through doing our chosen activity.

Question: How do we effectively use our time during this period amidst the stress and fear?

Mohanji: Go online…(laughter). Very simple. We can’t go outside the house, right?

Question: How do we motivate ourselves in this situation to begin and continue daily meditation and practices, especially early in the morning despite our busy schedule with family and work?

Mohanji: We have an Early Birds Club now. That’s the reason why I started this club recently. We have to start early in the morning at 4 am. Then have a pattern of activity until 6 am. By the time you reach the usual waking time, you have actually covered a lot of distance. It’s not easy to just start the day early and do nothing, because then the usual habits pull us back to bed. So we have started the Early Birds Club for that purpose. And this is really creating a difference in people’s lives. Now people have actually written back saying that they now have a lot of time and there is a lot of peace, contentment, etc.

early birds club

To start early, you need a bit of effort initially, but eventually it becomes a pleasure. You will feel quite good because you’re not just wasting time sleeping, procrastinating and then being lazy and feeling wasted. Instead you wake up early then do something. Some people have started writing their own stories. People say that it looks like another life or feels like another life. You can do so many things in this time; you can be very creative. As said in the beginning, there are so many domestic issues going on. I would like everybody to inspire people. It’s not the prerogative of spiritual teachers alone to do that.

All of us have our stories, have our history. We have a lot of wealth inside. We are not short or small. We can always share some insights with people, with the world outside and give some kind of a consolation or solace to people outside. It need not always be the teachers and the masters. Sometimes people get bored with these spiritual people (laughs) Normal people in the world can also talk. I always inspire people to share their experiences. You share your story, it might resonate with some because some people have actually survived total hardships like displacements, wars, etc. Many people who follow me around the world have gone through wars, they have been displaced, lost their houses, family members, etc. So I tell them to share it, even if it is painful to remember. Maybe it will be purgatory sometimes, and you may get purified through it. And that happens. People can be natural and be themselves in this time because you cannot go anywhere. You can use the online facility and communicate, which will help people. I feel that we all have a great potential. All we have to do is accept ourselves, and then we’ll realise that we can do a lot in this world.

Dr. Nidhi Kumar: Absolutely. Now we take the viewers to the next segment, which is on emotion. One of the greatest forms of suffering is to deal with death. So we have a lot of questions on this. How does one deal with death because it becomes an overwhelming and imaginable sense of grief, to deal with death.

Question: How to overcome the anxiety and the debilitating feeling that happens after some loved one passes away. How do you deal with that?

Mohanji: This is a traditional fear – the fear of death. For all the 7.5 billion people in the world, the biggest of fears is the fear of death. And the next fear is usually the fear of failure and society, fear of failure etc. But the fear of death is a part of us.

The driving factor of all species is instinct – that’s the driving factor. While for human beings, the driving factor is usually the inclination or vasanas, and of course desires. But the instinct part which is common across all species is the main instinct for survival. So this fear of death is connected to survival instinct, because we like to survive. Every being likes to survive, and the other side of survival is death. So we fear something which we do not want to happen, but it’s true and inevitable that we will die.

As human beings, we have the capacity to understand and assimilate the idea that we are deathless. That is only for us because we have that capacity to connect to something which is permanent. So we have that thing inbuilt in us, we have that capacity. So what is the antidote to fear of the inevitable death? The death that we are walking towards every day, even at this point in time when we are speaking, after our conversation, we are closer to death. It goes like that, right? Every moment we are taking one more step towards death that is supposed to happen.

So how do we come to terms with it, with the inevitability? It’s very simple – we must understand that we have something within us which is deathless. And that’s the reality. The shell that we carry, the form that we carry, the name, the position and the positions that we have, are all temporary; while there is something which is bright and brilliant, which is real and that’s hiding behind this whole paraphernalia or this structure. So we start looking at it and we say, “Oh, this guy doesn’t want anything. He has no interest in life. He has no interest in death. He is deathless. He is a time rider. For him, time is like a horse. He rides time.” Because time doesn’t ride him, time only rides the body, the body, the mind, intellect, ego. But the thing which is bright within us, it’s beyond time. So, the moment you start connecting to that, then death is just a phase.

In fact, every day we are dying for a few hours. That is the deep sleep state, where we do not know whether we are a man or a woman, time or space, whether we are a guru or a disciple, we know nothing. Then when we wake up again, we realise that this is the garb which we have been born in. We are born in this life and we come to know and then we start behaving like this particular role, this personality. So every day we are experiencing that and every day we are coming back to life in the morning. That’s why it’s a new life every day. So what happens in actual death is that we come back in another body, or we don’t come back at all – we dissolve. So this is the option. When we have awareness, awareness is the antidote – it is the antidote to the fear of death. This is the way it is.

awareness

Nidhi: How do we free ourselves from the bondages of emotions and become mentally strong? How to overcome negative emotions like fear and negative energy?

Mohanji: We have three processors in our system which are mind (processing emotions), intellect (processing, information), ego (processing personality matters like positions and possessions, role in society etc.). So this together is what we call as mind-matter. Actually it’s one material or one processor, but we segregate them so we can understand. The body has three processors and these three processors need food. The food of mind is emotion, but when we have so many emotions to handle, the mind has obesity. When we have so much information to handle, intellect has obesity. When we have so many positions, possessions and ego stuff to handle, then ego has obesity. If you eat a lot of food, the body has obesity. So obesity is part of our existence and the 7.5 billion people around the world have some obesity in some way.

So what do we need to do? How do we handle these emotions etc.? Emotions are coming in all the time. But we need to understand – like our stomach for example, we need to know how much we should eat, what we should eat, and what quantity etc., so that we are in control of our food consumption. Like that, we should be in control of our emotions, and emotional consumption as well. Emotions are available outside; this is all coming from outside. We need to control what comes inside and don’t just get involved in emotions habitually, because that’s what we do normally. And the same with information, so much information is coming that is mostly negative in nature – like 200,000 people died, so many people are in quarantine, this country closed the doors, that country closed the doors; so many people lost their jobs. This is what we hear from television.

What we need to do – we need to have an antidote. We go and search for something positive and read that, basically the life of great masters. In India we have a great tradition with the tradition of liberation – moksha. If you look at the whole world, the purushartha (dharma, artha, kama, moksha), these four aspects out of which moksha is defined only in this country, and that’s well-defined. And out of this many religions came out like Sikhism, Buddhism, all these came out of one aspect called moksha. So we have that big, huge tradition and depth of wealth. So if we read or assimilate materials or things connected to moksha, the highest potential, we can superimpose that moksha on mind, intellect, ego everywhere. And with the benchmark of conscience – our own conscience, which is like a guard, like a firewall, which protects us from all the impacts. So we do not compromise our conscience, and we use the potential for liberation for all of us. We all have it as the benchmark. And if we don’t get involved in things which we don’t want to get involved in, we will always be safe.

mind

Suffering is in the mind. It’s only a waking state thing. Pain can be in the body. Like what Ramana Maharshi said when somebody asked him, when he had cancer, “Swami, do you have pain?” He said, “I have pain, but I have no suffering. I choose not to suffer.” Suffering is always connected to resistance. We try to say, “Oh, why did this happen to me? Why am I such a good man? Why are bad things happening?” All these confusions leave us with a lot of junk and suffering. So this we can definitely avoid – self-pity, sympathy all these things should be plucked out and thrown away. Life is happening. Take life as it comes. And when emotions are coming, which you don’t want….. like when we go to vendors or vendors coming home (when there is no Corona situation). When they come home to sell things, what do we buy? We buy only what we need in the house. We don’t buy everything. When we go to the supermarket, what do we buy? We only buy what we like to consume, otherwise we don’t buy. So this is what we should do all of our life. Whenever we are awake, we should be controlling our consumption. We should not indiscriminately consume, because if you do that – obesity happens. And this is a continuous thing, and sometimes we are so helplessly involved in it, and that’s a big trauma for us.

So as a general answer, I can say to control your consumption: physical consumption, emotional consumption, intellectual consumption, and also ego things like pride. Don’t try to consume everything that you get.

And also, you do not have to prove anything in life. Because people who love you will accept you; people who do not love you will not accept you. That’s how the world is. Not everybody will accept you. Those who have eyes to see will see you; those who do not have eyes to see, can’t see you. That’s fine, because that’s the way creation has happened. So let us be realistic. And let us say that we don’t have to prove to anybody. We are living our life without violating or without violence. We are not trying to harm anybody so that we are on safe ground. We contribute what we can contribute. And we always ask the question, “Can I do something for you?” so that our purity is always maintained. If you focus on what you can deliver and not what you consume, you will feel peaceful. This is the right time for understanding that.

Nidhi: To add a little bit to that question, there is societal judgement that comes in, you know. You say to live in the moment, but sometimes society kind of judges you on a lot of things, and a lot of you (viewers) have been writing to us: “My mother-in-law or my so-and-so..” You have to get over that judgement somehow by realising that it’s your life and you can live it whichever way you want to, because God ultimately wants you to be happy. So what may be a sin in say, the eyes of society or your friend circle, may not be a sin in your own eyes.

Mohanji: Well, the minds of the other people are in their own bodies or their own systems. We do not have much control over it. But I would say that if we have not been affected at all for a period of time, then the impact becomes less. If we’re reacting to everything, it will be increasing because then there is a pleasure on the other side. Like if somebody is abusing us, or judging us, criticising us, which I have experienced many times. I don’t respond, and say to myself: “okay, this is their opinion, my reality is totally different.”

mohanji7

So we must have trust in ourselves, faith in ourselves. We don’t buy things which we don’t agree with. Because we can’t change people, change other people’s minds. We interact with many types of people every day, right? And we don’t have many choices for it, because society has a variety of different types of people. We have to interact with them consistently. We don’t have any choice. So while we’re doing it, make sure that we remain clean and unaffected. Unaffected means – let them say whatever they want. If they have pleasure, it’s okay. I believe in that. If somebody abuses me, I think: “okay, maybe because of me, he has that pleasure.” So this is okay. He has the right to have pleasure, like everybody. So even if he is abusing me, it’s fine. As long as I don’t buy it, it stays with him. You know, I normally say this to people: when people try to gossip about others to me, I say, “You must have done a lot of hard work to get this information. This is precious for you. Keep it with you. Don’t give it to me.” So they don’t tell me again.

Q: Can you kindly share with us at what stage of your sadhana (with regard to the number of months or years) you first started experiencing the state of blissful existence? As someone who has recently started to meditate, I would like to know more about it so that I can be not immediately bothered about such expectations hindering the entire process.

Mohanji: Yes, I would say that, first of all, we should not keep any expectation. This is the first point. Second is that the experience is usually individualistic, because we all have our own constitution. We can’t say that another person had this experience, so I should have it. It may not happen that way. Third is that for me personally, I did not know what I was looking for. Because as I told you, I was working in a company and I was practising.

So one thing I would always say is that you have the same place for meditation or practice every day. Don’t change locations. Because what happens is the mind gets occupied with it. So I used to keep one room and I had covered the whole room – I made it like a cave, so that there was no light entering from anywhere. And I only had one lamp, no pictures, nothing in that room, so that the distraction level was less. Initially there’ll be a lot of distraction because we have habitual thoughts coming in, and things like the pleasures, which we like to indulge in. That comes like, “I need to have coffee or tea”, or, “it is time to check the mail”, things like that. But for that I used to start at 3 am every day, but I don’t recommend that because that was my own style. I used to have my time, my own personal time and that was 3 am to 8 am every day. That is when I was practising – means I was actually trying to explore myself. I’m not asking you to replicate anything – I’m just telling you in a broad spectrum, one space, always. One space, one kind of environment and one lamp (with flame) or one thing to connect to. Plus one practice – same practice. Sometimes it’s so boring but you still do the same practice. If it’s a mantra, chant the same mantra again and again and again. So what happens is the mind finally breaks up. Mind can’t hold it anymore. Mind likes variety. The repetition kills the mind, and that moment when it breaks is when your whole identity is broken.

So for me, it was consistently about six months before there was a slight change in the whole thing – where I could assess the difference by not getting affected with the world outside. That means whether a thing is there or not, I’m not affected. Earlier, I used to have certain requirements every day. If I get up in the morning, I take a bath and once I’m done, then I do my prayers. But then after that, I need to have a coffee or something. But all those needs became optional. So that was the first step. So like that, eventually, tremendous detachment happened with the world outside. When you start touching the silence deeper, at that time, the world of noises is somewhere far away. You can hear the noises, but that’s not yours – so far away. Then you feel totally separated from it. If you want to go to the noises you can go. But again, you are not affected. It’s like with some people who smoke a lot, who can’t handle being without cigarettes. Then after the moment they decide to stop smoking, after a long period of time, even if somebody smokes, it doesn’t matter, because they have overcome that – like that. The world of noises is probably a temptation for some time, and then the temptation also goes. So, I would say it took six months before I could actually start connecting to myself by crossing over the tendency for searching for noises, because that was my world like everybody else’s. This is the world of noises. We are used to it and we think that’s natural for us, but it’s not. We think it’s natural.

Nidhi: There was a question regarding the sadhana, is it traataka by any chance?

Mohanji: So, one technique as I said, I was looking at the lamp but I was not looking – my eyes were open and connecting to the lamp but I was connecting to my spine. I didn’t practice traataka.

Nidhi: Shlloka, let’s take the next question and then move on to the next segment liberation.

Shlloka: The next question, as you’ve touched upon it earlier in your segment as well. You know, it’s a very natural tendency for people to want to tide over suffering and reach a state of pleasantness, pleasure, enjoyment, whatever you may want to call it. You have stressed upon awareness as being that seat of pleasantness and enjoyment. You’ve also spoken about how presence is the highest practice. So if you can tell our viewers who are watching you for the first time as to what is the importance of awareness and why so much stress on it?

Mohanji: Yes, awareness starts with very small things like for example, we are talking. Just be aware of every word you utter. That means no absent-mindness, first of all. Then we are moving our hand or we are doing something – be aware. In other words, let the mind be present with everything, every word, every action so that your mind is right here in the present. This is the number one thing. Then you can go deeper and deeper in awareness and eventually you are aware of your heartbeat, you are aware of your breath, you are aware of your aura; you can be aware of everything. You know, it’s very interesting if you start connecting to yourself and start assimilating and you will know that the heart has a particular frequency; that the liver has a particular frequency, that every aspect of you has a different frequency. And it’s like an orchestra inside. You know, every organ is playing in the orchestra, that’s a synchronisation – it’s like a huge beautiful melody. So you start connecting to yourself and then you realise, “Oh my God, I’m a big universe, what I was looking at outside is nothing compared to what I am or what I can see inside”. So awareness takes us there. Awareness is so important. Now, in daily life, what happens is that we get so involved that we lose that awareness a little bit – because we forget that we are the actor. We forget that we are not the role. We are the actors but we forget that thing. So, what happens is – we get involved with the role and we believe that we are the role, not the actor at that point in time. We get affected and that’s where suffering happens. Because the role has suffering, you also have suffering. Otherwise, if we always remember: “I’m an actor and this is just a role I’m playing and this is temporary”, then there is no suffering. So, suffering is connected to our deep involvement – then we tend to blame the other actors. We are in these role plays every morning till evening.

Nidhi: I am reminded of Shakespeare’s saying, Mohanji. He said that famous line, “Today, we have our exits and our entrances. So each of us is a player and it will be curtains down soon for everybody. That’s what he said.

Mohanji: Yeah. So this awareness is that, but consciousness is different; awareness and consciousness are different. Consciousness is our driving mechanism which has three distinct aspects every day: the waking state, the dream state and the deep sleep state. So the same consciousness operates in three dimensions each day in 24 hours. But awareness is that we stay over all that’s happening to us – like a view from above. So you can see all the role plays, but at the same time you remember you are always the actor. So that gives you that immunity as well as power. That makes you powerful.

mohanji6

Shlloka: So we have a question from someone – you just spoke a while back about sadhana. And you mentioned that there is so much resistance. As a spiritual practitioner myself, I experience that as well – how every day, one doesn’t want to get up and do sadhana – there’s so many things to do, don’t do it. There is so much resistance and one sometimes succumbs to the mind. So the question is being asked:

How does one conquer the fear of limitations in the way of one’s sadhana?

Mohanji : That’s only in the initial stages. In fact, after a while you will not even feel anything if you avoid expectations, if you avoid agenda. For example: “My friend who was doing sadhana achieved a level of silence. So I should also do that.” Don’t do that. You just be yourself, don’t compare, don’t compete and just follow. I never used to tell anybody what I used to practice – that’s a very good idea. Because if you try to share with people, then they would all have opinions and sometimes they derail us. So I would say that keep your own practice close to you, do it as quietly and consistently as you can, and after a while, this becomes a usual thing.

See, the subconscious mind reproduces what you do repeatedly – like for example, if you do 21 days or 41 days. That is the point of the Early Birds Club that I spoke about earlier. That means people wake up at a certain time and do a particular sadhana. After a few days, they automatically wake up because they can’t sleep. Then that becomes enjoyable. And if you’re not competing and comparing, you will have no sorrows connected to it. So I would always say that you must consider that you are not the mind, you are not the intellect, you’re not the ego and don’t analyze and don’t keep on digging the seed out to see if the roots have formed. The root will happen at its own time – everything has its time. But I always believe that everyone has the clear potential, like everyone else, to touch the highest consciousness or to touch the state which is consciousness. So, all of us have that power and we are never higher or lower than anybody.

Shlloka: Mohanji, in connection with this, can talk about the importance of sadhana, what are the benefits of sadhana or yoga for that matter? You know, there’s so many people who are non-practitioners who have written to ask :

Why should one be pursuing the path of sadhana? Are there any other ways to achieve the ultimate, or is sadhana the only way? If it is the only way, what is the benefit?

Mohanji: Well, sadhana is nothing but a systematic practice. That means something which you’re committing to. And anything you are committing to, you should have conviction about it, you should believe in it. Not because somebody else said or is doing or not doing. We should check whether it suits our nature, whether it is natural for us or whether it is suitable for us, and then we follow that. For example, a person who’s devotional by nature cannot follow a guru or path of knowledge or jnana yoga. This person can only follow bhakti, and that’s what suits a person of that type. So this is the first point – that when you practice something, make sure it suits you. Don’t just follow like a cow; a cow’s tendency is that if a cow goes in one direction, every cow goes in that direction too. So we should not do that because we are human beings. We should not have herd instinct. Instead, we should look at what suits us and choose. If something doesn’t suit us, we should be happy to say that’s not our cup of tea. That is the first thing about sadhana.

mohanji-quote-consistency

Secondly, consistency as I said earlier. Then the question about why one should have sadhana – it’s very simple, otherwise you miss a great personality!! Instead you will be immersed in the world outside, a world of noises with so many things, varieties, colours etc. And it is never ending because you will always have more and more desires. And finally get tired because all this while you’ve been running after so many things and materials, you got so many things but are not still happy.

So, how do we find happiness instead of going for various pleasures? We come to ourselves and then we realise, “Oh my God, I never needed anything, I am happy otherwise.” So, for understanding this you need to have practice. I always say two D’s — one is Discipline and the second is Determination. The other side is distraction. So to overcome distraction, you need to have discipline and determination. Determination is to connect to yourself. As I said earlier, the whole spiritual path can be crushed and the essence of it can be said as — “You are that. You are what you’re looking for.” So this ‘You’ is a great story. We know that we only connect to ourselves as incidents based on what we have experienced. That’s not us. We have so many other things, other faculties and factors. We are a conglomeration of all that. So if you do not connect to yourself, you miss that great opportunity.

Nidhi: Mohanji, we are completely out of time now. I’m just going to take two more questions. One person said that she’s been praying to Sai Baba and she’s been seeing your face. There are many more questions like that. Another one is:

Why is Sai not answering my prayers? What should I do? It’s been a decade. What would you like to say to such people who’ve been asking plenty of such questions?

Mohanji: How can I say why Sai is not answering? But I would say that Sai always answers. We have living Masters and we have had great Masters who have lived here as beacons of light and power. And they always respond, I believe so. Because the thing is that we are probably asking for something which can’t be delivered, something personal or selfish. They don’t cater to it.

Or secondly, they would have delivered something which we fail to see because we are focusing on something else. This happens many times. What we got, we may not see. But what we don’t have or what we thought we should have, we will see. It is the same with the gurus, you know. The tradition says or the scriptures say, “The one who has appeared in front of you is your Guru. Connect to him completely.” But then we have probably an image of Babaji, an image of Sai Baba and we say, “Oh, that form did not come to me. So I don’t accept it.” So you miss it. This happens in our life.

Sai

I would say that no master ever denies anybody. This is my experience. All true masters are here to serve. They’re not here to earn or eat and eat more etc. They are here to serve. If you stop asking, maybe you get much more, maybe you are supposed to get a Mercedes but you asked only for a Maruti!

Nidhi: How lovely! How beautifully you summed it all up, Mohanji. And I think we’re going to have many more sessions with you. It’s almost time now to wrap up. It’s truly been a very insightful, incredible journey packed with so much wisdom and this intersection with you has been wonderful to begin with. We have many, many more questions, which will not go unanswered I’m sure. To wrap up, I’d like to give special thanks to you, Mohanji for gracing us, to my team Union, for producing and marketing this show headed by our volunteer Ajay. Thank you so much. Thank you to the Mohanji Foundation. We thank you for making it see the beautiful light of day. Now, I leave it to Shlloka to end this session for today.

Mohanji: Thank you. Thank you. Thanks to all of you.

Shlloka: It’s been a pleasure. And you know, the viewers have flooded us with questions.

Nidhi: I think even ten sessions with you will not be enough. There were hundreds of questions, and you have thousands and millions of followers. So we have to have this again very soon. That’s a promise to our viewers.

Shlloka: Mohanji, people have written to us, of course with their questions, but you know, it’s also just amazing to see the kind of profound gratitude that they have for you. For example, we have an individual who talks about and thanks you for your protection and for your grace – and many more messages.

We wish to have Mohanji back once again, so please keep your questions coming, viewers. And in the meantime, we would urge you if you have more questions, you can always visit Mohanji’s website, Mohanji’s Facebook page, it’s flashing on the screens. You can always stay connected and be answered to the best possible way, until we meet again. Thank you Mohanji once again, see you in the next one.

Shlloka and Nidhi: (To the viewers) We hope you would take all the answers and implement them in your life and we do hope you’ve liked Ask the Masters.

These podcasts are to transform you

mohanji1

Hello, my dear friends. This is Mohanji.

Welcome to the podcast.

Today I would like to answer a question which somebody had posed to me. This is about the podcast itself. He asked the question, “Why don’t you add more matter to your talks? Even if it’s a bit longer, it’s fine.”

So my answer is, I have started this podcast not to give you answers, but to give you questions, to give you food for thought. There is a very important concept in the world of knowledge. A good teacher should show a student where to look but not what to see. If I tell you what to see, then there is no creativity for you. Your creativity is stunted. So my job is to just give you certain thoughts, certain questions, which should mature in your own mind through discussions, through sharing, through talking about it, so that it transforms you. This is my intention, not to give you so many ideas. We have done so many videos to give you answers of that kind. The reason for this podcast is not to teach you anything, I have nothing to teach you. Instead, I have some thoughts to give you, which can probably grow and mature in your own mind. So if you use this well; if you use this for your own thought processes, or you contemplate on it, you share with others and discuss it, and formulate certain ideas; that is the kind of maturing which I expect out of this podcast.

So, it’s not just to listen and forget; it’s not to get answers; instead, it is to think. The very reason for these podcasts are to convey this idea that we are all unique, we all have our thought processes, we have our inclinations, we have our tendencies, we have complete uniqueness. What can you do out of this uniqueness? Create a unique understanding; create unique expressions. So this is exactly what I want out of this podcast.

I would like you to mature these thoughts are in your mind and let the seed become a tree. And also, I’m making sure that all these thoughts are positive. We’re not trying to discuss negative thoughts. We are not trying to bring talks about people. We’re not talking about concepts and prejudices; anger, hatred, jealousy, revenge; this is not our subject. We talk about love, we talk about gratefulness, we talk about various aspects which nurtures you, enriches you, empowers you. This is what we would like to discuss. So, your thoughts are welcome.

quote

I got a question, “Why don’t you talk about love?” So I said, I have spoken about love a lot of times. When we talk about love – we talk about love which is our very nature, it is unchangeable. It’s the same every time. There is no change at all. When we talk about love between human beings, love for materials, love for positions; that’s all temporary. That’s all waking state affairs. Let’s not confuse between the real love and the waking state expressions of love. When all other emotions end, what remains is love, just like our self. When we talk about self-realization, it’s only a realization of what is already sitting inside you. Like that, love is sitting inside you. Love and self are the same, love and God are the same, love and guru are the same. So, don’t equate that love with the transactional love in a man-woman relationship or love for materials, wealth, possessions, positions; that’s all very small and short – abbreviated form of real love.

So, let me reiterate, the reason for these podcasts is not to educate. It is to give you food for thoughts. I would like you to digest them as much as you can. Ask me questions, we discuss so that eventually we will see ourselves transforming without our knowledge; as we are growing without our knowledge, as we are evolving without our knowledge. There is no time limit for this, there’s no age limit for this. So all we need to have is just that fire inside; that fire to understand, to assimilate, to align, the fire to transform. If you have that fire inside, that kind of attitude, then these foods for thoughts will grow very, very rapidly within. And it will definitely help you to see the world differently, see your life differently. So this is something which I would like you to understand.

And then people ask, “Is there an age limit?” What age limit? Until you die, you can grow, you can evolve. And also there is a concept that at 50, a person attains his death, and from 50 onwards, it’s a new life. So 50 onwards, we are to start from one. It’s an interesting concept because, by the time you’re 50, you’ve completed one set of your life, that means half a century, then you’re starting again. So if we are in that mode, we understand and sometimes you can see in life that at 50, you transformed, you changed, something changed inside. This is also possible to see, there is no age limit. There is no age at all. Age is just a concept. Age is not at all a reality that way. You know, when you say age, it’s about physical age we’re talking about, but that’s not important. What is important is your attitude, the attitude to transform; your attitude to destroy your comfort zones and evolve. This is important.

So I would like to leave you with these thoughts anyway. I hope you understood the idea behind this podcast. It’s not to educate, but it is to inspire you to think.

Lots of love.

Why do we fail to help others?

Hello friends! This is Mohanji.

Today, I would like to answer a question from a young man. “How do you make other people successful when you have lots of things to do?”

Well, it’s a beautiful question. I liked it. It is because making other people successful – that’s a very big thought. To be honest with you, I never thought of it that way. I did not think I am making other people successful. I made this platform called Mohanji and so many people are finding fulfillment with this and I would like to attribute it to the Tradition. I always attribute everything to the Tradition. I do not take any ownership.

Having said that, where do we start? It’s a big question, right? We have to start somewhere. We have to help ourselves. We have to be stable to hold the hands of another person; who’s probably looking for help or maybe he may have not explored himself, in any way. We can guide a person to himself or we can give guidance to those who need guidance; all these are possible. Anyway, everything is fine.

doubts

I was looking at how did I help myself? So, I went back to my own life; my childhood, my youth, my working time – working in a company, at these times, what was l doing? I was helping myself. I was basically helping myself and in the bargain, I might have helped others. But what are we doing actually in life? This question we should always ask. It’s a very important question. I was looking at this whole perspective in a very logical way; not spiritually but just logically. The building-up stage, I have received a lot of assistance; we all have – from our parents, from the teachers, from everybody.

So many factors have built us up. This being which we call ‘us’ today have a lot of background. There has been a lot of support from many people. First of all, starting from your mother because a mother has always nine months more relationship with you than anybody else in the society; you stayed in her stomach for nine months before you came out into the society. So, a mother has a deeper connection. Starting from a mother, step by step, stage by stage, we have received a lot of help from the people, from society, from the environment, from nature.

All our aspirations, all our feelings, all our emotions have something to do with something. It’s not just stand-alone. So, if you look at this large canvas of who helped us, we will have to say so many things; uncountable, you don’t know even how to count. It’s been so many. And it will give you a lot of wonders. My God! All these years we have walked on Earth but we never acknowledged anybody, any being. We took almost everything for granted. We never appreciated deeply. Are we right? Probably we have appreciated partially, selectively; that’s all fine. But have we really understood and appreciated? That makes a difference here. We complain, “Oh, this is not right, that is not right. People are not okay. They’re not giving me enough” etc. But have we started appreciating everything that has happened to us.

mohanji-quote-the-more-you-operate-with-spontaneity

Everything has contributed; what you are today is a total of all these contributions and experiences; good experiences, bad experiences, everything together. We have understood life. We have understood people in whichever capacity because of all these experiences. Isn’t this wonderful? It’s really wonderful. Then, you reach a level of maturity where you start giving what you have to others; your experience, your time, your love, your money, what you have in abundance. Whatever you have in abundance, you would like to share because you realize that this makes you happier. This is happiness. This makes you happier, this makes you more purposeful. This is life. At that point in time, we don’t look back, we go ahead. Okay, this is what it is.

Likewise, we are born into a family. But do we have a family? Do we really have a family? This question should be asked. Why did we not have a family? It is because we never accepted ourselves in the first place. So, we have to help ourselves. Only when we help ourselves, we can help the world. Only when we accept ourselves, we can accept others. So, it is all about us; how we handle ourselves. If we handle ourselves with anger, disappointment, insecurity, so many factors which pulls us down, then we will handle the world the same way. The world is just a reflection; it’s like a mirror. What you see outside will be this. When we blame somebody else, understand we are actually blaming ourselves. Because we can’t blame ourselves and get away with it, we blame other people and in that bargain, you spoil a relationship. We compare, why do we compare? Those who compare are heavily insecure. Those who are really secure, those who are very happy, very contented with oneself will never compare. There’s nothing to compare. You appreciate another person, not compare.

anger

So, when we compete, it’s the same thing. We have some deficiency. We feel that we are not up there. So we try to compete with another; to beat that person in a certain game, in certain aspects of life. And then we feel good. But look at this whole thing. Are we really happy with all this? Never! We are never contented. We become contented only when we become helpful in the world. That gives us perpetual peace. That gives us contentment. That’s very important to remember. So, when we try to help others, when we decide, “I would like to help the world spontaneously”, automatically, we’re helping ourselves and we are stabilizing ourselves. We are being stable; we are being purposeful. So, helping others is spontaneous when you are already stable. You can see that in the world.

Most of the people who are at a great level of awareness, they are always available to the world. They don’t sit at home and have personal enjoyments. Those who are insecure and sometimes those who have not accepted themselves, those who have not helped themselves, or those who have not really groomed themselves, beyond the competitions and comparisons, they have to do that first. They are not available to the world because they are leading a selfish life. They do not agree with people, they do not accept people, they do not really love people. But they expect love. Can you get love when you don’t give love? You can’t. You get only what you give. This is the way the world is made. So we have to understand, we have to look within and we have to find ourselves. And that platform which I think I have provided, that is my biggest contribution; a platform where you can find yourself and you can express yourself freely. It’s not behind somebody, ahead of somebody, it’s together with everybody.

So this is something which I would like to give you as food for thought. Why do we fail to help others? Try to find the answer. Go within, look within, contemplate. And see what makes you not help others, or what makes you compare with others. What makes you compete with others? Understand that this is all sitting within us. You don’t have to do any of this. We are unique. We have all the power, all the facilities that existence can ever provide. And we are unique, absolutely unique. This is the thought I would like to leave you with until I see you next time. Ponder over it, discuss among yourselves. Try to build something out of it. Try to build a structure out of it. All the things I’m giving you are to improve yourself and your standards of living. I would like to leave you with this. Wish you a great day and time and I’m always with you.

Mental health and stability

Mohanji meditate

March 26, 2020

Hello friends,

We are all on quarantine in our own houses. I think it’s the same all over the world, especially in India; we are all in a kind of house arrest. But this is inevitable. This is the real drastic step our global governments have taken to contain an epidemic and we must comply with it. We must support it. We must do everything possible to help our governments to stabilize the situation. This is very important. I understand there are a lot of inconveniences because many people have already told me about their suffocation because of forced isolation, about deteriorating mental levels, uneasy psychological states, feeling terrible, self-esteem affected; all these things are expected, I have spoken about these possibilities a long time ago when I said almost the entire global population might be affected emotionally and psychologically.

When we are in confinement for more than a reasonable time, this is bound to happen. And this is not about any external factor. This is actually something internal because it’s about a situation that we are used to versus a situation that we are forced into. So, we are used to a situation where we were in our extreme freedom, where we could go anywhere, do what we liked, we could buy anything, and we could eat anything, we could go to places; we could have entertainments at various levels. This was our reality before, but right now, that’s not our reality. It’s all confinement. And we have certain restrictions in food as well. This is very uncomfortable for many people.

I’m responding to a few questions which came to me, in fact, some people have told me that they are going through this tough internal process. I’m not surprised. That’s why I’m giving this message.

In a situation where there is forced isolation, we are bound to have inconveniences, suffocation. This is what people feel in prisons. That’s exactly what the animals feel in the factory farms. That’s what the animals feel in zoos. So, wherever there is confinement, there is suffocation and there is a lot of emotional distraction. Then we start blaming every external factor like governments, like the enforcement bodies for our state of suffering. It’s not true. It’s actually the sign of times. The situation is not created by our governments, global governments. They have not done this. This has happened due to whatever reasons; I don’t even go into who created it because that’s already created. Let’s look at the effect; we will not look at the source because there’s no need to know the source right now as it will not help us. It will only probably accent our level of distraction, accelerate our suffocation, discomfort or our discontentment.

So, I would rather, you focus on your inner state. And some people ask me, how did you attain this state of calmness? My answer is through self-imposed isolation. My question is that are you ready to have that answer? I’m not underestimating you. I’m not saying that you are not up there. It’s not the point. The point is that in every situation, we have the ability to remain calm, not blaming any other bodies, any other external factors, people, places, time, various situations, and just count on our gains and merits. We have a place to sleep. Number one, that is a shelter. Second, we have food to eat. Maybe that’s not the food you like to eat, but we have something to eat, we can satisfy our hunger. We have something to eat, we have a place to sleep and we have clothes, some kind of protection from the environment. So, this is exactly the basics that we look for, any existence looks for; any human being, any sentient being looks for. So we have all that. And I think this is very important to remember, understand and acknowledge at this point in time.

social acceptance

When emotions are running high and we start fighting with people, in the families, we start blaming them for past events and reasons and stuff like that; we are creating hell in our own homes. And I think that we should never do that because now, God or nature has kept us together in our homes, our families together, and that should be counted as a blessing, not as a curse. We should always look at our blessings. If you have to reach higher levels of awareness, you need to have a lot of deeper levels of acceptance, a very high level of acceptance. So acceptance is very important; acceptance of oneself, acceptance of the situations, acceptance of the people around you. Even if some people in your household are angry, upset and they’re blaming everything, it is up to you to pacify them, console them, give them the reasons and the awareness. You should tell them; look here, all that you talk has no value in this situation which is not created by us. It has befallen on us. You know, it’s like you are out there in the streets without an umbrella, then the rain starts and there is no shade, you will be drenched. That’s not because you did anything wrong or somebody did something wrong to you that it happened that way. The situation created it and you are experiencing that effect.

Now, there are places in the city where people said the police are literally attacking or beating people when they come to get some resources etc. Well, I would like to say that this is part of the enforcement bodies’ job. They have been instructed not to have people coming together in some places because then the virus gets transferred. One person can infect a 1000 people, or maybe more, if he goes into public places. So, we need to understand that these enforcement bodies have their job to do for our sake. Maybe they are doing it aggressively because they don’t want to take any chances. So there’s no point in blaming. I think we should just take care of ourselves, and we should follow orders and we should trust the governments now, whichever country you are in, we should trust the governments to do their best. As I had said earlier, no government was equipped to handle something of this nature and size. They never expected a situation of this kind, where there is a total embargo.  You can’t move anywhere, you can’t go anywhere, all the borders are closed and situations are out of control. So, they will definitely do whatever it takes or whichever way they can, to create the effect where the disease does not spread further.

So, we need to comply; we need to accept. Now lastly, what I would like to say is that this is a great chance for you to develop your highest level of awareness. First, stop blaming anybody. That’s the first step. Nobody is responsible for this, maybe we can say collective consciousness created this effect. If the collective consciousness of our unconscious lifestyle was not responsible, we will not be in confinement. It is collective consciousness; collective consciousness born out of insensitivity, collective consciousness derived out of unconscious lifestyles, and the collective consciousness of taking the nature for granted, or the collective consciousness that took our nature for granted. We have encroached into every territory, we have captured, tormented, tortured and killed various species; we have done much harm to our own brotherhood; our own nature, our own fellow species, the species that are coexisting with us. We have harmed them and we have thought that they are all for us to enjoy, or do whatever it takes. And then just like we had slavery in the past where we used to buy and sell people; use people as we liked and kill people if we didn’t like; the same thing we are doing with animals and birds today. So this mindset has to change and nature is giving us a chance to do that. Nature is giving us a chance to be humans again.

mohanji-quote-awareness-through-acceptance

You know, we are used to certain habits; habits are broken. Addictions – we are used to certain addictions, some people are addicted to cigarettes and some people are addicted to alcohol, or drugs and so many things, and that’s not easily available now. So, the addicts go through tremendous stress. And if there are such people in your house, they will be displaying various levels of irritation, violence or aggression. We have to handle them wisely. There’s no other way. We need to have enough stability to handle everything in our houses. And maybe, you won’t get much medical support for them at this point in time because all the doctors and the clinics are busy taking care of the coronavirus situation. You may not get much assistance to access the de-addiction facilities. So, that has to be understood. And some people are going into the level of suicide as their withdrawal symptoms are really wild and violent. I understand that too because that’s part of it. And that was supposed to happen in this kind of forced isolation.

So, every situation you look at are all chances for you to change for the better. Be stable, calm and handle situations as it comes. The first step is acceptance, non-resistance. Second step is accepting the society or accepting the environment as it is. And please understand; now the governments have said that only the family members and close family members should stay together, the rest of the people should be staying in their own facilities which prevents us from having guests at home. This is not a punishment. This is because they want to isolate and monitor. This I understand, I spoke to somebody from this enforcement authority earlier and they said, they don’t want to punish anybody. They want to keep people sufficiently apart so that they can monitor them easily. They want to make sure that the people who are not part of the family stay outside the family so that the families are properly taken care of as well; this way, individually or in one group, they can contain the possibility of the virus spreading. So, I think that we need to just obey and follow what the government says, just because they have a definite plan.

So, we are not supposed to keep any non-family members in our houses and we are not supposed to go to other houses while in isolation, but at the same time we must take care of our people. So if you have anybody isolated and they don’t have access to assistance; our people are isolated and don’t have access to medical support or shelter or food, do let us know. We will try to do something but no guarantee what we can do because we also do not have mobility.

Do not blame God. Do not blame situations. Do not blame Gurus. Do not blame your father and mother. Do not blame your doctors; do not blame your government. This blame game is going to really sap your energy and that’s not going to give you any kind of strength. Secondly, fear is absolutely not required, if you have taken the precaution, if you’re staying away from the public, if you’re following the instructions of the government, the public authority, the hospitals, you don’t have to worry. If you engage in activities that are not recommended, then you are responsible, not them. So, we must understand the situation clearly; we must obey accordingly; we must follow accordingly.

So, again, coming back to this question, please take care of yourself, please take care of your family and accommodate everybody who is at home peacefully and with love. People of your own family may have various demands, disagreements, and disappointments because of this forced togetherness. So, we as a family should try to contain it. We should not blame each other and fight with each other and make it miserable inside the house where it is miserable to exist together. So, don’t make that situation. If that situation happens because of other family members, diffuse it. Pacify everybody, talk to everybody, and make sure everybody understands.

Take your time. Maintain silence, if possible. If you have enough inner strength and if you have gained strength through good associations, talk to the world and give them some confidence. If you have strength, if you have stability, share it. That’s the highest thing you can do at this time because even though the world is closed, social media is active; you have all those spaces to convey your message through and use it properly and convey your strength and your stability effectively. If you are unstable, then you have to maintain silence. You’re to do more of pranayama – breathing, meditate, connect to yourself and look at yourself as an outsider. Introspect. Contemplate. What exactly is annoying you? What is making you angry? And don’t blame outside entities, outside beings, spaces, time and people. They not important. That’s escapism. Instead, go within and see what is hurting you inside. If you’re very steady in your connection with the supreme consciousness, God or guru, nothing will destabilize you. This is for sure. That’s the only connection you really need at this point in time. Faith is medicine when fear is the disease.

mohanji-quote-anger-hatred-jealousy

So, you need to see what is destabilizing you, what is annoying you, what is making you irritated? Those are the things which you probably need to pluck out of your system. And that’s a good thing, write them down and understand – “this particular thing is irritating me”. Not having a cigarette is irritating me. Not having coffee is irritating me. Anxiety for not having the food which I want to eat is irritating me. So this is good for your introspection, you can understand where you stand. Write them down on a piece of paper and burn them. As the paper becomes ash, those feelings also should become ash in your mind.

I leave you with these thoughts and please think about it and try to understand and transform yourself; try to assimilate yourself and stop blaming the governments, the systems and the enforcement authorities. Don’t blame your family members or each other for past events, incidents or past actions and never make people’s life miserable in your house. Instead, try to love, try to forgive everything and forget the past for good. Try to love and give lots of love to people unconditionally. Renew friendships with your family members and try to understand them and their feelings better hereafter. People really need love and probably we have failed to give love to our own people for a long time since we have been very busy; this is the right time to do that. So, give love, share love, protect people and tell people – I love you – wholeheartedly within the family.  If you have not told them for a long time, tell them now and display that and make it extremely sincere.  This is the right time to do that because you have all your family members available within your house. So do that and convey love to your friends that you care, through phone, social media, etc. Always understand that together we are strong; divided or separated, we are weak. So, let us remain together as one family, one global family and let us support each other as one global family. All the people are in the same situation like us. So, don’t try to do portray yourself as a victim. We are all victims in that mode. So don’t worry about it too much as all are in the same boat.

This is the time as I said yesterday to press the reset button and completely cleanse yourself and make yourself stronger and stable. And then your world will be better for you. This is the right chance for that. And I’m always with you. I’m walking with you.

I will always be with you. Just be happy and do your best. Lots of love.

PART 1

85055891_2838160779574974_7920489653164048384_o

Q: I had a dream about you. You gave me lots of money. Is it ok, what does it mean?

M:  Isn’t it a good idea to have a dream and you get a lots of money? Dream state is a very powerful state; it is the same as waking state. Do you know what the difference between waking state and dream state is? When you are awake, you are sourcing from the world outside, when you are dreaming, you are sourcing from the world inside. But both have one thing in common –  experience. It is called experience and experience has an element of satisfaction. Every experience has an element of satisfaction. When you get something from the world outside, you have satisfaction. But sometimes, it is  temporary.  We have satisfaction from dreams also, because while dreaming it’s real for you. Every desire craves for fulfillment. Every desire’s natural culmination is fulfillment. So, if there was a desire to receive large amounts of wealth, it probably gets translated through dreams and you have satisfaction in that mode. Dream state is a very important state, where you are actually releasing some of your desires, just like waking state.

Q: What is the best way of serving God in a daily life?

M: When you start seeing the God element in yourself; if you just accept yourself totally, you are serving God. There is one thing that you can never avoid in your lifetime and that is you. When you truly and completely start accepting yourself, your own existence, you are accepting God. When you start accepting yourself completely, you become very  powerful. There are no enmities, there are no differences, and you only see your own vibration in the whole world. And that will give you Oneness. Oneness is the nature of God.

Story

One boy asked his father, “You keep talking about God to me, but I don’t understand God. What is God? “

The father explained,  “For you to experience God, you have to experience yourself.“

“Why does God need us to be God?”

Father replied, “Bring me some fire, I will show you.“

He brought a  lamp that had already been lit, with fire.

So the father said, “I told you to bring fire, why you have brought a lamp? It is a flame.“

Then he brought a burning charcoal.

The father  said, “I told you to bring fire, why have you brought a charcoal?”

The son replied, “ I cannot bring a fire without a medium.“

To this the father countered, “God cannot manifest itself without a medium.“

eng-1

If you understand that, you will respect yourself. You will understand yourself. You will accept yourself. That is the only acceptance you need in life, and everything becomes love, because you love yourself. When you look through the eyes of your mind, what you see is differences. If you look through the eyes of your heart, you will see Oneness. We are all related. We are all relatives. Because, what sits in all of us is one thing. The shells might be different; the forms are different; personalities are different. Because that is the nature of expression of Creation. But inside all of us is one thing. When that thing leaves us, we call it a dead body. So what is alive in us, in waking state, dream state, and deep sleep state is the God particle; the particle called God. That is the value we have. When it leaves, we bury the body, we have no value for that body. As long as it sits, we have value; the moment it leaves, value is gone.

Now, you tell me how do you serve God? Love yourself, and love everybody as yourself. Because all are you, everything is you.

Q: How to defend ourselves from negative people?

M: I think both positive and negative sits inside us. We have both in us. When we nurture more and more love inside, and we start expressing that love in the world outside, we become more immune from the negative things of life, negative energies. There is nothing that is  only positive or only negative.

There is an old saying,   “The devil  uses the key of doubt. “   Doubt is the key that the devil uses to enter the mind. Once it enters, it uses the mind as its vehicle.

Doubt becomes the key for negativity to enter the mind. Once it enters the mind, you don’t know how to overcome it. One doubt will become two, three, and four  and very soon, doubts will rule your mind.  Say, you are progressing very well in positive vibrations and evolving higher into higher realms of awareness, someone   could simply plant a single doubt in your mind saying , “Are you sure?“ and that is it!  Everything  goes down. It’s as if you made extremely good food, spent hours  to make it and somebody put one drop of poison; nobody can eat that.

eng-2

This is how the society works. They put doubts in your mind, and you are busy handling this doubt. By then you are already slipping down. Doubt is usually from those that you cannot avoid. This is also not only in spirituality; it is also in other relationships. People  put doubts about somebody, and you start behaving differently to the other person. Have you experienced it? How many times have you liked or disliked somebody based on someone’s words? Do you understand  what I am saying? We have to use our experience as our guide. Our own experience is our truth.

So, what is the other side? Faith. Faith in what? Faith in yourself. Trust in your own experience. If you have these two, nobody can touch you. No negativity can enter you. Guaranteed. Faith in yourself, trust in your own experiences, these are your protective sheaths.  Have you seen? Those who have strong faith in themselves, none  can defeat them. When a king or a ruler has full conviction and faith in him, and is leading an army, it is very difficult to destroy them even if the army is the half size of the opponent’s. If you stop trusting your own experience and believe in somebody else’s words, then nobody can protect you.

You must also remember,  you are born powerful. All of you. Who makes you weak? Your own mind. You don’t need any protection from anybody because you are born powerful. You have your own immunity, your own protection around you.  But  your mind is sometimes telling you that you are weak, and if you believe it,  you are weak. Otherwise, you are not weak.

Sometimes people come and tell me, “Mohanji, we cannot do that. It’s not possible. It is impossible.” I listen to it, because I respect their opinion, but I will still do it if I can. Even if I fail, I will try. Because if you did not even try, you do not know whether there is success or failure at the other end. So try, and have faith in yourself. If you fail, it is a good lesson. If you succeed, it is amazing, you proved the point. I would say, keep walking, trust yourself. Have faith in yourself. Trust in your experiences. You will eventually know that you are very  strong.

Did I answer that question about negative beings? Negative beings or negative energies can come to you only if you permit them. Only if the windows are open, the mosquitoes enter. How do you prevent mosquitoes from entering? Fix a net. What is your net? Your own experience. Trust it. Don’t allow opinions to enter through.  Let your experience lead you, guide you.

Q: How to overcome anger and aggression, when they happen within us? Is homosexuality something that can be overcome and is it morally sound to have children while in homosexual relationship?

M: What does anger have  to do with homosexuality? If you did not like your girlfriend and became very angry,  you became a homosexual? (laughter)J

Many of the emotions such as anger and hatred have their root cause  in expectation. If you go deeper to find the root of anger, you will see an expectation that was not fulfilled. That leads to a situation of anger. Usually, an expectation unfulfilled becomes a disappointment. A disappointment then leads to anger and various other forms.

Understand one thing very clearly. All the human beings are driven by inclinations. We can see it even in children. They have certain inclinations, we all have them and they are unique. Inclinations are the driving force. If a person is inclined towards certain things of life, he will chase them. That gives you likes and dislikes. They are the root cause of most of the flavors of life; how we live, what we like, what we dislike, who we like to be with, who we don’t like to be with; all these things are caused or driven by inclinations. You may call  them tendencies.

eng-4

You can see these inclinations very distinctly in children; very clear inclinations. And usually, that is why they choose a certain path of education;  because they are inclined towards it, unless parents influence them otherwise. If not, they choose their path and go further. I am talking about inclinations because if you look into yourself and find your inclinations, you will easily understand your patterns; it is easy to understand. Destiny is not easy to understand because destiny is as it unfolds.

So if you really look into yourself, behind every habit, behind every tendency, behind every like, behind every dislike, you see inclinations at work. Another example where you can see inclinations at work is how some people like devotion; they like to chant, they like to sing and they like to see or feel God through Bhakthi or devotional path.

Some people need answers, they have lots of questions and they need answers. If they don’t get answers, they don’t accept. That is the knowledge path.  Like that, we have the path of service, path of Supreme Consciousness, and so many different paths. This tells clearly our tendency, our inclination. Thus, if you look into yourself and understand the patterns that you have, the habits that you have, all these  point towards your inclination; and they are the cause for your daily experiences also, that is where I am coming to.

So, what causes anger, what causes hatred, and all such emotions? The primary cause is always an expectation, an unfulfilled expectation. If you understand your tendencies and just watch them; don’t do anything, just keep watching …“This is my tendency, these are my inclinations…“ If you keep watching, after a while you will see that your anger quotient has reduced, expectation reduces, disappointment reduces, anger reduces by itself.

eng-5

People love gossips right? People make television  series out of it, and also make a lot of money. What is the cause of gossips? Personal insecurities. If you are fully secure you will not talk about another person. It doesn’t matter. If you are insecure, then you will talk about other people to cover your insecurity. When you are secure, and when you are contented, you will permit life to go on, you will allow life to flow. You will not be worried about anything.

This is approximate picture of anger. I hope you understood  where the anger comes from. Now you look within, and see what is causing that anger. When somebody is angry with you, what is the best way to handle it? Will you shout back? Smile. They are expressing their weakness, right? Let it be. Your presence should make them feel better, not worse. Mostly, when your ego is hurt, anger happens. It is a response or a reaction of the ego.

Sexuality and homosexuality

Now about homosexuality, what is the problem with that? All people have sexuality. Everybody. Not only human beings, but  beings of every species. Why is it so? To continue the species. That’s exactly why the aspect of sexuality is connected to every being. But most beings, except  the humans, keep sexuality to their body. What do we do? We keep sexuality in our mind, and we don’t know how to get rid out of it. That is why we have a huge porn industry. Why is it happening? Because we keep sexuality in the mind. If you show a porn to an animal, it wouldn’t want it to see it. The point that I am emphasizing is that everything in life has its place and it has its relevance. When these are migrated  somewhere else, they change their forms. When anything is suppressed, or controlled or denied or disciplined,  it creates different shapes;  whatever is suppressed or denied,  they create or  change into different aspects, different forms. I would say, do not look at sexuality as a disease. It’s part of life, and it’s a part of the instinct which is God given, which is a part of Creation. It is connected to the basic instincts, it is the basic instinct. What is the basic instinct? Instinct for survival. Survival instinct is our basic instinct. One part is food, the other part is sexuality, connected to the survival instinct.  We don’t have control over sexual orientation because  it is connected to various factors. It could even be what we get to see in the world, such as certain phobias, fears or concepts, how we are brought up, or what is denied, so many factors… It is not just one thing;  lots of things are connected to this. If you understand, this is it, we will not have much opinion about it. I don’t give opinion about any of the personal orientations. Because I am nobody to give an opinion. I have no right.

eng-6

I only say two things: One is accept yourself as you are completely. The second is, do not be violent, by any means, in thoughts, words or actions. That means total acceptance and non-violence. There is peace on earth.

We are 7.5 billion people on earth now. If all people are heterosexual, it will double up in no time. I think nature is keeping some checks. We respect nature. But I never give an opinion. I don’t have an opinion nor do I ever say anybody’s  non-violent expression is bad, because it’s not my job. Nor is it your right to judge another person. You have no right and that is because of one reason, we do not know another person. I do not know another person because I see another person only at a certain time, for a certain space in time, not beyond. Neither do you see another person;  everybody sees each other only for a certain time, then how can we judge another person?

But we can accept everybody, just as we have to accept ourselves.

I hope that it is answered. I never explained sexuality in such detail.

Not a bad idea.

Q: When will I find a soulmate (a man)?

M: Look around, in the larger world (laughter). But before that, have you found your own soul? If you have found your own soul, and if you have accepted that soul, as the one real aspect of your existence, you will definitely find your soulmate. Instead of looking outside, look inside, and find your only truth, and then, when you look outside you will only see truth. Instead, if you are looking outside, to find a person, you will only see forms, and you don’t know which is your soulmate. You need to understand your soul, to find soulmates.

eng-7

Q: I would like to know what is the easiest way of clearing the blockages that I have?

M: One word – ACCEPTANCE. All the blockages are connected to resistance. Watch yourself. Try to find out how many things in life you have resisted and are still resisting which are making you unhappy. Usually, unhappiness is connected to resisting something; fighting against something; when we are against something,  our entire  energy is occupied with it and then we do not have time to be happy.  Instead,  start accepting yourself. Say, “OK, this is happening in life, let it come, let it go. Everything comes and goes.” When you are fully occupied with yourself and you are accepting yourself, then there is no room for blockages. Nothing can block you. Nothing within or outside can block you.

Q: How to deal with those heavy people, the emotional vampires?

M: That is a very big question J. What do we do with them? The only way you can sustain  different energies from the society is to increase your energy. There are methods: meditations, kriyas, chanting… You do a purification every day, for some time, at least a couple of hours, for two or three hours, internal purification, alignment. When you are fully aligned, nothing and nobody can take from you; you can give anything, but nobody cannot take away anything from you. So alignment consists of consistent activity, practice.

What practice is good for you? Practice which you can do effortlessly, without effort, one that you like to do, one you love to do, that is good for you.

Which teacher, master, Guru is good for you? The one with whom you can connect effortlessly.

Which religion is good for you? The religion, the road map  through which you can travel effortlessly. You are feeling good.

What is the common factor for all of these? YOU.

eng-8

Everything is connected to you. When you wake up in the morning, you have a world outside of you. When you sleep at night, your world shuts down. That’s the only world you have: the world when you wake up, and when you sleep. The space in between that waking and sleep is your only world. Before you were born this world existed, after your death this world will exist, but that world does not belong to us. We can use this world only when you wake up, and in between, until the time you sleep. It is  very simple.

We are busy trying to conquer this world, and all that we want there. But what will you do with that? We are busy queuing to buy the new iphone 10. After a while, somebody says, “iphone 11 is coming,“ so this is useless. We are always chasing something new, and we get tired. Sometimes we get tired.  That is exactly the point. The point is that everything is you. With or without the iPhone, you are still you.

So, what is our job? Recognize this truth – You are everything. Where is Mohanji sitting? Only when you are awake, sometimes outside. Is Mohanji relevant? Not as relevant as you are. Not only me, anything outside of you is only complementing your existence. But your existence is owned by you.

If you really understood what I am saying, if you really understood this point, you will never be disappointed in life. You will be happy with what you have, and you will not have unhappiness with what you don’t have. You will be happy with whatever you have right now. It does not mean that you become dull, you become contented, peaceful. This is good, isn’t it?

But to all the people who came to see me I am very happy (smiles) don’t think I am not happy. I am really happy you came to see me. I appreciate it.

eng-9

But please understand, the whole spiritual journey and the material journey also, all types of journeys, the journey of life is you, is connected to you, you are the beginning, and you are the end. And never feel that somebody else is ruining your life, that somebody else is deciding your life, somebody else is trying to manipulate your life, that is not true. It is only as much as you allow, they can enter. Only as much as you open the door, air or light will enter. It’s not about other people, it’s about us. The story called life is about us. It’s our story. There will be many players, there will be many people participating, like in a drama. They are all complementing your story. They are not creating a new story. You are the main player. You are the main actor, the hero. And many people are playing the other roles, let them play, it’s nice. There will be romance, there will be horror, good, bad, ugly, everything. But that is the beauty of life. That is how life should be. It can’t be monotonous, right?

Thus, as a matter of interaction with the society, I always say this, let everything you do, let it be honest to yourself. Means, there should be honesty and purity in your thoughts, words, actions, so you are fine that way. If there is no honesty, then slowly you will start hating yourself; it’s not about people, it’s about us. It’s our story. We have to keep it pure and honest. Nice, beautiful, fragrant.

Q: There is a secret connection between India and Serbia. Do you agree?

M: I not only agree, I feel. That is why my wife is from Serbia; irreversible connection. Another thing is that like the language; there is a lot of resemblance, I would say, between  Sanskrit  which is the substratum for most of Indian languages and as well as the language here, I believe. I would rather look at the entire Balkans. It  makes more sense  because there is a lot  in common.  There is a lot of frequency connection with the larger Balkans. I don’t look at countries, I look at energies. So, when you look at the energies, there is  a unity in the whole region.  You can feel the same in India, in what we would call  Bharat India, which means the spiritual India. The basic vibration is that of spirituality. There is a deeper link here. We are linked in some ways. There is a lot of connection, visible and invisible. Most importantly, we are all related, soul-wise. We are soulmates in that way.

Don’t worry, I love South Africa also, don’t be sad. J These sisters had a sad face (talking to the audience). America also, Sedona. J I really like Sedona. That is the Kailash of America. I love Sedona.

eng-11

Q: I used to be afraid  of  authority and kind of ashamed. It’s no longer the case, but why do I react by shivering when I am getting in touch with any authorities and how do I defeat that, how to overcome that?

M: That’s connected to what is stored inside. All our responses, all our inclinations, all our styles and tendencies, they are all connected to what is inside of us. If you deeply look within, and start facing that particular situation or pattern, they will start vanishing. They start dissolving. Don’t think anything is permanent unless you keep it permanent. If you start looking at all your fears, straight into the eyes, they just vanish, they dissolve. Because everything has its duration, and its limitation. When you are really focused on all the fears, nothing will stay.

As a general thumb rule, all that you are experiencing is as per what you have stored. Because these are the impressions, which you have picked up from your experiences, and they got stored in our system. For example, you had tremendous problems with teachers in classes or with a teacher and your experience wasn’t so good, you may keep the tendency or a feeling that anybody of authority has to be feared, that they are probably not good for you, and you started  responding that way. There are many trapped emotions, which are the reason for certain experiences we have in our lifetime.
